Five Healthy Hair Tips to Adopt Right Now

Whether it’s using bleach or heat, we put our hair through a lot. This can leave it feeling damaged, dry or just in need of some serious TLC.

Let’s face it, we all want to have hair that radiates shine and is healthy-looking. However, it can seem like this requires a lot of effort and maintenance to achieve.

While there are no quick fixes to healthy hair, there are some simple things you can add to your hair care routine which will make all the difference.

As experts in all things hair care, these are our top tips for soft healthy hair. You can thank us later!

Invest in a good quality shampoo

First of all, it’s important to take a look at what shampoo you are using. Investing in a good quality shampoo that is suited to your hair type or issue is hugely important.

Avoid shampoos with harsh ingredients such as ammonium lauryl sulfate or sodium lauryl sulfate as these can be damaging to the hair.

If your hair has been damaged from chemical processes or heat styling, we recommend using Aveda’s Damage Remedy™ Restructuring Shampoo which strengthens and repairs hair from the inside out.

Meanwhile, if your hair is crying out for some moisture, we advise using Aveda’s Nutriplenish range which comes in light and deep moisture.

Take care of your scalp

It’s easy to neglect your scalp but it is in fact the foundation of healthy hair. So, if your scalp isn’t in good shape, then your tresses won’t be either.

Suffering from an itchy scalp is extremely common and has many different causes including seasonal changes and stress. Adding a soothing shampoo into your routine that will help to gently cleanse the scalp.

It’s also worth using a scalp masque such as Aveda’s Invati Advanced™ Hair and Scalp Masque which deeply nourishes the scalp while thickening, strengthening and hydrating the hair.

Protect your hair from heat

One of the worst things for hair is heat from styling tools and the sun. It can result in the hair becoming dry, brittle and prone to breakage.

While you should try and cut down your use of styling tools, when do you use them you must use a heat protectant spray. We love using Aveda’s Heat Relief™ Thermal Protector & Conditioning Mist which protects hair up to 450 degrees during restyling.

When it comes to protection from the sun, you can use a UV defense mist such as Aveda’s Sun Care Protective Hair Veil or simply cover up with a hat.

Eat a balanced diet

There’s no doubt that eating a balanced diet is good for your body but it can also have benefits for your hair. Eating the right balance of nutrients will give it what it needs to be shiny and strong.

If you aren’t consuming enough protein, your hair is likely to become dry, brittle and weak. Diets that are extremely low in protein can even restrict hair growth and cause hair loss.

You should also ensure you are getting in enough of other nutrients such as iron, vitamin C and omega-3. This can be achieved by having a diet rich in a range of different fruits, vegetables and legumes.

Use a hair mask every week

While a hair mask can often seem like an extra addition to your hair care routine, it has plenty of benefits. Using one every week will give your hair the nourishment it needs which is particularly important for damaged or frizzy hair.

Opt for a natural hair mask such as Aveda’s Botanical Repair™ Intensive Strengthening Masque which will leave your hair feeling softer, smoother and shinier.
